Multiple sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system that strikes most in the prime of their lives. The most common age of diagnosis is between 20 and 40; a time when most are starting families and careers. Some symptoms of MS are blurred vision, loss of balance, slurred speech, tremors, numbness, extreme fatigue, memory problems, and paralysis. These problems may be permanent or may come and go. The unpredictability of MS is what makes it such a challenge to face. At this time, the cause and cure for MS is unknown. The National Sclerosis Society is committed to finding better treatment options and funding research for a cure.
The original A-Team came together 5 years ago, when family and friends joined from St. James Parish to raise money and educate others about Multiple Sclerosis. Our family has been affected by this life changing disease, along with many other families in our community. We felt it was time for us to step up and join the movement towards a cure.
At the beginning, the A-Team raised money by selling home-made plate lunches and sweets. We also had a lot of help which came from enormous amounts of donations. From all this hard work and success, the A-Team has been one of the top fundraising teams in south Louisiana. To date we have raised over $50,000.
We are very blessed that our support team is expanding to our surrounding parishes. We have officially become a non-profit organization named The River Parish A-Team. We welcome anyone whose family has been affected or not by this horrible disease to join us in this worthy cause.
Our 2014 fundraising year will include dinner sales, bake sales, raffle tickets, and after much success we will be having our 3rd Bass Tournament “Going Fishing for a Cure.” Please come out and support our cause; you can make a real difference. Your donation will make a difference in the lives of so many who are battling the effects of multiple sclerosis each day. We can provide a Tax ID number upon request.
Thanks for all your prayers and support,
